January 18th Newsletter
Dear Parents,
I am so proud of this group. This week, I increased the work expectations as I informed the students that they are beginning to prepare for third grade. They all did a wonderful job with this.
In addition, they also worked very hard in the technology lab as they took the winter session of the MAPS tests. I am looking forward to sharing the results with you during our next parent/teacher conference.
The conferences will take place the last week of February. I will soon send out a Sign Up Genius email.
In addition, you should have also received an email from me as well as a Sign Up Genius email regarding our Valentine’s Day party that will take place Feb. 14. Also, a paper copy of the letter and class list are also in the Friday folders.
As a second grade team, we began Friday Math Groups. Depending on each child’s math level, he/she is working with one of the second grade teachers on Fridays to enhance math skills at his/her particular level. Students will change groups as needed to best fit each student’s needs.
Just a reminder…..There is no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I am looking forward to teaching the students next week about Dr. King as well as his accomplishments and great beliefs!
We have completed Unit 3 of the Reading Street component of our reading program. Therefore, next week, we will be taking the Unit 3 Benchmark test. The students will not have a new story or spelling list.
During the silent reading component of our Readers’ Workshop, I have been working with students individually to give them the DRA reading test. This is the same one the students came in to take before the school year began. I am looking forward to sharing their current reading levels with you at our conference.
Sincerely, Mrs. Melissa Herbel
